Gran Canaria Airport Transfers to Tauro

Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) is the main gateway for visitors heading to the island's southern resorts. Tauro, a quiet coastal area tucked between Playa de Mogán and Playa del Cura, sits around 55 kilometres from the airport along the GC-1 motorway. The drive typically takes 45 to 55 minutes, passing through Arinaga, Vecindario, and the tourist corridor of Maspalomas before reaching the quieter southwestern coastline.

This page covers everything you need to know about getting from Gran Canaria Airport to Tauro: distance, journey time, route, transport options, pricing factors, airport pickup details, and practical tips. Whether you are booking a private transfer, considering a taxi, or weighing up public transport, you will find the information needed to plan a smooth arrival.

How Far Is Tauro from Gran Canaria Airport?

The driving distance from Gran Canaria Airport to Tauro is approximately 55 kilometres (about 34 miles) via the GC-1 motorway. Tauro lies on the island's southwest coast, within the municipality of Mogán. Because Tauro covers a stretch of coastline rather than a single point, the exact distance can vary by one or two kilometres depending on which hotel or apartment you are staying at. Properties closer to Playa del Cura are marginally nearer to the airport, while those nearer the Taurito and Playa de Mogán end add a little extra distance. For the vast majority of accommodation in Tauro, the door-to-door journey remains within the 53–57 kilometre range.

How Long Does the Transfer Take?

A private transfer from Gran Canaria Airport to Tauro usually takes between 45 and 55 minutes under normal traffic conditions. The journey follows the GC-1, the island's main southern artery, which is a modern dual-carriageway for almost the entire route. Journey time can extend to 60–65 minutes during peak holiday periods, Friday afternoons, or when incidents cause congestion around the Maspalomas and Meloneras junctions. Shared shuttle services that make multiple hotel stops can add 20–30 minutes. Early-morning and late-night arrivals often enjoy the quickest runs, sometimes as little as 40 minutes. These figures are guidelines; actual duration depends on traffic, weather, and your exact drop-off point.

Best Private Transfer Options

How Much Does a Transfer from Gran Canaria Airport to Tauro Cost?

The cost of a Gran Canaria Airport to Tauro transfer depends on several factors. Vehicle size is the main driver: a standard car for up to three passengers is the entry point; minivans for four to seven passengers cost more; minibuses for eight or more are priced higher still. Travel date matters — high-season weeks (July, August, Christmas, Easter) often carry a premium over shoulder and low season. Return bookings usually attract a small discount compared to two one-way fares. Extra luggage (golf bags, surfboards, oversized suitcases) may trigger a supplement. Child seats are typically free or carry a nominal fee when requested in advance. Because Tauro spans a few kilometres of coastline, the exact hotel location can add a few euros if the drop-off is at the far end near Playa de Mogán. Private transfers are fixed-price; taxi meters and shuttle per-seat pricing work differently. Always confirm the total price, including any supplements, before booking.

Where Do I Meet My Driver at Gran Canaria Airport?

After landing, follow signs to Baggage Claim and collect your luggage. Proceed through Customs into the public Arrivals Hall. Your driver will be waiting in the designated meeting area, usually just outside the sliding doors of the arrivals hall, holding a board with your name or the transfer company logo. If you have booked a private transfer, the booking confirmation will specify the exact meeting point and often includes the driver's phone number. Drivers typically track your flight, so they are aware of early or delayed arrivals. If you cannot see your driver, wait by the information desk or the marked meeting point and call the number provided — do not leave the area with an unofficial taxi. For shared shuttles, a representative will direct you to the correct vehicle. Allow 20–30 minutes from landing to meeting your driver, longer if you have checked luggage or pass through non-EU passport control.

About Tauro

Tauro is a low-key coastal enclave on Gran Canaria's southwest shore, administratively part of the Mogán municipality. It sits between the larger resort of Playa del Cura to the east and the marina village of Playa de Mogán to the west. The area is characterised by a handful of mid-rise hotels and apartment complexes set above a series of small, sheltered coves with dark volcanic sand. The coastline here is rugged, with cliffs providing shelter from the prevailing northeast trade winds, making the sea often calmer than on the exposed Maspalomas beaches.

There is no traditional town centre; facilities are concentrated within the hotel complexes and a small commercial area near the GC-500. A coastal promenade links Tauro with Playa del Cura and, further along, Playa de Mogán's picturesque harbour and weekly market. The atmosphere is relaxed, appealing to couples and families seeking a quieter base with easy access to livelier neighbours. For airport transfer purposes, it is important to note that Tauro addresses are all accessed from the GC-500, a short distance from the GC-1 motorway exit, so the final few minutes of the journey are on a slower coastal road.

Nearby Resorts and Destinations

Tauro sits in a chain of southwestern resorts that are often confused by first-time visitors. Immediately east is Playa del Cura, a slightly busier area with more restaurants and shops along the promenade. Continuing east, you reach Meloneras with its lighthouse, upscale hotels, and the Maspalomas dunes a short drive inland. West of Tauro, the GC-500 leads to Playa de Mogán, known as "Little Venice" for its canals and marina — about five minutes by car. Further west, Puerto Rico and Amadores are 10–15 minutes away, offering larger shopping centres and nightlife. Inland, the valley town of Mogán (Pueblo de Mogán) sits a few kilometres up the GC-200 and is worth a visit for its Thursday market. When booking a transfer, confirm whether your accommodation is in Tauro proper, Playa del Cura, or Playa de Mogán, as the drop-off point and price can shift slightly. Some transfer providers group these under a single "Tauro / Playa de Mogán" zone, so clarity avoids misrouting.

Tauro to Gran Canaria Airport

The return journey from Tauro to Gran Canaria Airport follows the same route in reverse: GC-500 to the GC-1 motorway, then northeast past Maspalomas, Vecindario, and Arinaga to the airport. Allow 50–60 minutes for the drive, plus 10–15 minutes buffer if your pickup is during the busy mid-morning period when tour coaches and rental returns join the motorway. For morning flights, especially before 10:00, book a pickup at least 2 hours 30 minutes before departure; for midday and afternoon flights, 2 hours 15 minutes is usually sufficient. The airport recommends being at check-in 2 hours before European flights and 3 hours for long-haul. Pre-booking your return transfer locks in the vehicle and pickup time, avoids last-minute taxi hunts, and ensures the driver knows the optimal departure window for your flight. If your flight is rescheduled, contact the transfer provider as soon as possible to adjust the pickup.
